Morgan Hill police find credit card skimmers at two ATMs – KSBW Monterey

Morgan Hill Police Department detectives are investigating the seizure of credit card skimmers that were located on two different ATMs.The department posted to its Facebook page that the first skimmer was found on Oct. 13 when officers responded to a call for service regarding a credit card skimmer at the Bank of America at Cochrane Plaza.The second was recovered on Nov. 2, at World Gas Station on Monterey Road.When officers responded to the gas station, they examined the ATM, which was inside the store and located the skimmer attached to the machine.Police say it is possible that more skimmers have been placed on ATMs or gas pumps in Morgan Hill.Officers are reminding the public to be on the lookout for these devices whenever utilizing their credit cards at these types of locations.Some indications that a skimmer has been placed on a machine are:• Wires seen sticking out of the card reader.• The card reader is loose or appears damaged.• Tape or tape residue on the card reader slot.• The card reader looks different or off-color from the rest of the machine.If a fraudulent device appears to be attached to the machine, contact the bank/store management and police. MHPD also recommends you frequently check your accounts for usual and unauthorized activity. If you have used your ATM/credit card at the Bank of America or World Gast Station and suspect there may be fraudulent activity, please contact Sgt.
